2. Dean & Deluca, St. Helena

What they offer: yes, yes...we know they are a chain...but really they do know what they are doing with in-store sampling of olive oils, mustards, and tapenades and an endless list of goodies like smoked meats, cheeses, fresh veggies. Not to mention half the store dedicated to wine!

Locals' Favorite: Cooking tools and supplies

Editors' Favorite: Chocolate covered gummy bears

3.  Oakville Grocery, Oakville

What they offer: This jam packed little store is worth the claustrophobia and the long lines. An excellent choice for a morning espresso drink and a warm pastry or an even better choice for lunch. Not too mention all the goodies you find on the way to the counter.

Locals' Favorite: Sandwiches

Editors' Favorite: The mustard selection

4. Genova Delicatessen, Napa

What they offer: Sandwiches on fresh baked bread, Italian sodas, espresso drinks, Italian candies, French cheeses, Polenta and Ravioli to go.

Locals' Favorites: Sandwiches...which is only obvious by the daily lunch line

Editors' Favorite: Frozen Take-Home Meat Lasagna

5. Cal Mart Grochery & Deli, Calistoga

What they offer: Inside what seems like an ordinary if not slightly grubby grocery store is an assortment of hidden goodies like small chocolate cream pies, freshly made salads often incorporating fresh fruit, cheese and nuts, and a decent fish selection.

Locals' Favorite: The Cheese Bar

Editors' Favorite: A quicker alternative to the long lunch lines
